1967 – EMS Fire & Security Established
EMS Radio Fire and Security Systems are a part of the EMS group, started in 1967 by the current group Chairman.
EMS nearly have 50 years experience within the development and manufacturing of wireless products using radio-based solutions for challenging fire and security problems. While in 2009 they reportedly produced their one millionth radio device.
1990 – FirePoint 5000 Launched
EMS Group’s FirePoint 5000 is a complete radio wireless analogue addressable fire alarm system with a range of functions that made it one of the most highly developed wireless fire alarm available at that time.
This launch marked EMS first industry partnership with Ziton.
2001 – Alkaline Battery Technology Released
The introduction of Alkaline batteries used within EMS, fire alarm products lowers costs substantially.
Each battery power pack can be replaced within minutes and possesses a practical life span of 5 years per battery pack depending on typical usage.
2010 -EN54-25 Compliant FireCell is Released
Integrating EMS, Smart Cluster Technology (SCT) and utilizing the European harmonised frequency band 868 MHz, EMS state that the FireCell was the first wireless fire system to comply EN54-25 and offers a wireless coverage that surpasses similar 868 MHz systems.
FireCell meets the needs for virtually every type of building and has many features and benefits.
2011 – FirePoint 5000 Withdrawn
Due to the enforcement of the CPR (Construction Products Regulation) in 2013, the FirePoint 5000 is withdrawn from the Market as it does not comply with the Wireless Product code EN54-25.
2012 – KEIBA Best Technology Company
EMS was selected and triumphed in the KEiBA 2012 award for “Best Science & Technology Company”.
The KEiBA’s: Kent Excellence in Business Awards is an annual event and organised by Kent County Council and KM Group to acknowledge and incentivize organizations and businesses in the County.
EMS Fire & Security is a privately owned company founded in the late 1960s. They started life as a technology company producing specialist electronic products. In the 1980s, the company’s role shifted, and it became the designer and manufacturer of high-security and personal protection systems. These systems, using the latest wire-free technology, were sold to financial institutions such as: Banks, building societies, and large retail outlets.
In the early 1990s, the market had progressed. This ongoing expansion meant that EMS required new product lines to satisfy the ever-growing market. So EMS developed the System 5000 fire point range of wire-free alarm products using advanced radio technology. The System 5000 was primarily designed for heritage buildings, but has since been widely accepted and is now used in castles, schools, universities, large department stores, and shopping centers to name but a few.
In 2004, EMS purchased a neighbouring property at its head office in Herne Bay, Kent. Extensive building works are currently underway to expand the premises to allow EMS to cope with current and future demand for wire-free products. EMS prides itself in its in-house development, manufacture, and support of all its products. They are constantly updating and revising to find new ways to improve existing product lines as well as designing new products for future use. This also includes an active involvement with the fire industry to ensure that EMS complies with the latest European standards. As part of their ongoing development, EMS has created successful partnerships with other companies developing products utilizing the EMS advanced radio technology.
